Yasmin birth control pill contains ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone synthetic hormone that prevents ovaries producing/releasing mature eggs. It changes uterine and cervical lining so that sperms cannot reach uterus and fertilize eggs or get attached to uterus. Thus, it even restricts possibility of egg implantation. It is used as oral contraceptive for prohibiting pregnancy from happening.
The product can also be taken to treat mild or moderate acne condition in females of 14 years of age or above, who have at least started menstruating. It may have other medical uses as well. It may cause temporary side effects like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, mood swings, headache, weight alteration etc. But, if taken as prescribed, these consequences do not cause much of a complication.
How effective are Birth Control Tablets?
Contraceptive pills have a 95% effectiveness rate. However, some drugs can reduce their efficacy including those meant to treat Hepatitis C, antibiotics, HIV/AIDS, barbiturates, seizures etc. Users should let their doctor know of their medical history and the medications they are consuming at present or in the recent past. Missing a dose can increase the chance of getting pregnant. Birth control non hormonal devices must be used, if the medicine is not being taken appropriately.
Who Should Not Take Yasmin Pills?
Those who are breastfeeding, pregnant, uncontrolled hypertension, blood clot disorder, cardiovascular diseases, allergy to the medication, diabetic issues related to kidneys, eyes, liver disease, liver cancer, blood circulation problem, severe migraine, above 35 years of age, chain smokers, uterine cancer, history of heart stroke, blood clotting, jaundice caused by birth control tablets and others, then Yasmin pills should not be ingested. What is the Dosage Cycle?
Take a pill at the first day of menses. If the medicine is taken on a later day, then non-hormonal contraceptives must be used to prevent pregnancy. Only one Yasmin pill has to be taken in 24 hours. The dosage schedule time must be the same everyday. If using 21 days pack, then ingest a pill each day for 21 days and then do not take any hormonal supplements that prevent pregnancy, for the next 7 days.
The 28 days pack has active 21 hormonal tablets and 7 inert tablets that have to taken instead of placebo. Within this period, menstruation begins. After completion of placebo 7 days, user can start with a new pack of Yasmin pills. Mild spotting can be experienced in the initial 3 months course.
What If a Dose is missed?
Missing a dose can cause greater risks of getting pregnant. If an active tablet is not taken, then take two of these pills together when remembered. Continue the rest of the course as advised. If two active tablets are missed in week 1 or 2, then use two pills everyday for the next two consecutive days.
Resume consuming one tablet per day. Use non-hormonal birth control measure for a minimum of 7 day duration, if dosage is missed. If active tablets are missed in week three, in a row, then a new pack has to be started with on the same day.
